Come, Holy Ghost, Our Souls Delight

Come, Holy Ghost, our souls delight
And kindle with celestial light;
The soul’s relief and strength Thou art
Who dost Thy seven gifts impart.

Thy blessed unction from above
Is comfort, life and fire of love,
And quickens with supernal light
The dullness of our blinded sight.

Consoler, cheer our saddened face
With solace sweet and heav’nly grace,
Drive far away our ghostly foe,
And Thine abiding peace bestow.

Be praised the Father and the Son,
And Holy Spirit with them One;
As ever was in ages past,
And so be it while ages last.

Ludwig Bonvin, “Hosanna” Catholic Hymn Book, 4th ed. (St. Louis: B. Herder, 1914).
