Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee

Jesus, the very Thought of Thee,
With sweetness fills my breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest;
No sound, no harmony so gay,
Can art of music frame,
No thought can reach, no word can say,
The sweets of Thy blest Name.

O hope of ev’ry contrite heart!
O joy of all the weak:
To those who fall how kind Thou art,
How good to those who seek!
But what to those who find? oh! this,
No tongue, no pen can show;
The love of Jesus what it is,
None but His loved ones know.

O Jesus, light of all below!
Thou Fount of life and fire,
Surpassing all the joys we know,
All that we can desire.
May every heart confess Thy Name,
And ever Thee adore!
And seeking Thee, itself inflame,
To seek Thee more and more.

O Jesus! Thou the beauty art
Of angel worlds above;
Thy Name is music to the heart,
Enchanting it with love.
For Thee I yearn, for Thee I sigh;
When wilt Thou come to me,
And make me glad eternally,
With one blest sight of Thee?
